All About MikoMiko Cosplay

Miko has been cosplaying as early as 2009, enjoying con culture with friends and soaking up all the good times. Beginning in 2017, he had built up a strong desire to start building custom cosplays from the ground up and has developed rapidly as an artist, competitor, and beyond. Seeing “Yuri! ON Ice” was the last push before Miko realized you couldn’t find or buy those costumes… so he got to work with “Duct tape, prayers, and a hand-me-down sewing”, and just made it happen!

Early on, he has been inspired by many makers at cons and online figures including Kamui Cosplay, Tock Custom, Plexi Cosplay, PretzlCosplay and many more. Miko has certainly absorbed an incredible amount of knowledge from his fellows and taken them to the next level with all of his projects. MikoMiko Cosplay is known for their masterful use of mixed media projects to create incredibly immersive and fun costumes over the years.

His work really shines in the blending of EVA Foam and Fur/Fabric to create remarkable pop-culture, anime, and video game characters come to life. Obviously, that is only a part of the process for Miko, as they go on to employ leatherworking, casting/molding, electronics & lighting, prosthetics, prop fabrication, and so much more to bring these fantastic creatures into our world. As a maker, it has been fascinating to see the inclusion of so many elements coming together in each project Miko makes.

As Miko has been developing new skills and techniques, he has grown even deeper into conventions in several roles over the years. For example, it would seem that engaging in competitive cosplay has accelerated the growth of his passion and techniques most recently – and it’s paid off as MikoMiko has won many awards for his work, gone on to booth, guest, and judge at conventions around the country!
